There's a shop nearby my work selling a couple of old vintage japanese guitars: a Les Paul copy aria pro II and a mosrite copy, Im not sure which brand.it could be Aria (earlier Aria ProII) or Univox. The headstock decals is long removed and I haven't thoroughly looked it over yet. They need some work (mostly electronics) but look cool as hell with their natural relic'd age and brown sunbursts. I can pick them up $50 for both. I know a lot of people like the Tokai's and Burny Les Pauls. Am I picking up a bargain or some old crappy jap guitars?? Click to expand. Not looking to make profit really.these are worn in all the right places and just ooze coolness.the mosrite even has a red speckel pick guard like the jazzmasters.looks better than a white pick guard. The Les Paul also has a great finish.its like a faded brown sunburst.almost like the new 1960's Les Paul. Its like a mix between a faded tobacco burst and a goldtop. I just dont know much about old Japanese guitars or whether there's much love for the old Aria ProII LP's. ![]() Through 1987, Aria guitars serial numbers represented the year of manufacturer as either the first one or first two digits of the serial number. Play it and see if you like it. $50 for the Aria would be a steal, as long as the neck isn't warped and there aren't other serious issues. I bought a mid-'70s Aria Pro II 'Leopard' Les Paul copy from a seller on ebay back in November. An am very happy with it. I replaced the pickups immediately: the original humbuckers were tinny and anemic. There was corrosion on the tailpiece and tune-o-matic saddles, both of which I replaced with Gotoh parts from StewMac. I played it for a few months, did some recordings and gigs with it, and now it's in the shop for a proper setup and nut work. Also, the pickup routes were a little large and some of the screws for the plastic pickup rings broke through the wood at the edge of the route. It probably needs minor fret leveling, but I'm going to hold off on that until I see how it plays after it gets back from the shop. That being said, the guitar is comfortable to play, the neck is straight, only a little heavier than my tele. The bound fretboard is even and well-done. It's got a pancake body, meaning it has front and back halves glued together. The neck has a long tenon joint, which is a big deal for some people (and partly why I wanted this particular one). It has a great acoustic sound, and with halfway decent pickups, it sounds really good plugged in. The tobacco sunburst looks great. It has small dings here in there, but that's natural relicing, which I'm totally fine with. I like how the guitar feels; I have no regrets. Definitely *not* janky-cheap crap, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Japanese copy from this era -- in fact I've been scouring ebay and local guitar stores for MIJ Tele copies from Aria, Tokai, Fernandes, Greco, and others. I'm about $150 into repairs and replacement parts right now, which I don't think is unreasonable for a 30+year-old guitar. I have some cheap GFS single coils in there now, but I'll eventually put in Duncan '59s or something along those lines. Click to expand.Cant play either of them yet as they are unstrung in the shop but the LP neck looks straight and is a set neck. Actually both are set necks. Im leaning to think the Mosrite copy is an Aria from the early 70's (68-74) and the LP mid seventies (76/77). The mosrite neck appears a little crooked, will see if that can be fixed with the truss adjustment. I could always use that for a slide guitar if the p90's are decent. I gotta keep my eye on this shop. Some old japanese guy runs it - its not really a guitar shop at all - but he often gets in these old japanese guitars and effects and is selling a bunch of fire damaged california series squiers for $10 each! The fire damage actually looks like natural relic'ing. Ultraman fighting evolution 3 iso download free.
